This is the fourth instalment of the series, mission impossible where the main character has to do ‘impossible’ tasks in order to free himself and his team from being held responsible for a terrorist attack. The genre of this film is that of action/thriller (hybrid genre, more info at IMDB) which is similar to the genre we will use in our upcoming coursework

The comparable profile for this film found at business.pearlanddean.com the statistics show that mostly males watch this type of film due to the dominance of 62% in the gender section of the profile.

Azmain: Why am I here?

Jayeb: You know what you've done...

Azmain: Actually, I don't. So why don't you get the point?!

Jayeb: Cheeky one, aint ya. We know you stole that cheeseburger, and we got it ALLLLLL on CCTV. *Jayeb winks*

Azmain: Are you 'avin' a laugh?! A cheeseburger?! Really?! I'm in here for that?!

Jayeb: *gives a raised eyebrow look*

Azmain: Alright! I was hungry, alright!

Jayeb: We've got all we need on tape now, you may leave the room.

Azmains Genre Analysis

Thriller (genre)

  • In thrillers, typical characters include; criminals, stalkers, assassins, innocent victims, characters with deep dark pasts, psychotic individuals, cops and many more. A thriller usually has one main antagonist and one main protagonist.
  • Thrillers are most likely to take place in ordinary suburbs and cities, although they may sometimes take place in partly exotic settings such as foreign cities, deserts, Polar Regions or the high seas.
  • A typical storyline could be of a character placed in a menacing situation, a mystery, or a trap from which escaping seems impossible. Life is threatened and storylines are usually crime related.
  • Props vary, such as different character types would be wearing different types of clothing. Often a villain will wear form fitting clothes which emphasize their build and therefore power (i.e. leather trousers and jacket.

Law Abiding Citizen

  • Birdseye view shot of buildings which connotes that the setting is in the city.
  • The fast-cuts give a feel of chaos which adds to the tension of the trailer.
  • Overture Films, The Film Department signs appear.
  • The score gives a feel that the film is going to be of thriller genre.
  • Close up view of man shaking hand with criminal followed by a long shot of the man watching on.
  • “A man who loses everything is capable of anything” – this suggests that the man may be out for revenge.

The Dark Knight

  • Birdseye view shot of buildings.
  • Warner Brothers sign appears.
  • Fast cuts of explosions again symbolizes a sign of chaos.
  • Batman is the main character, as he has the most appearances in the trailer.
  • The joker is seen invading some sort of gathering which portrays him as the villain.

Inception

  • Leonardo De Caprio is established as the main character.
  • The main characters voice-over is of him talking about an ‘idea’ which may be a key factor of the film.
  • Men in balaclavas arouses a sense of criminality.
  • Title of Inception shown at the end of the trailer.
